He could have easily explained this in a polite manner but he was intent on humiliating and belittling us in front of other customer.
He repeated himself several times saying that as the owner he puts out a specific number of tables and customers have no right helping themselves. the counter to place our order, we informed him that we didn't have a table number as we had got the table ourselves and he gave us a real mouthful! He was aggressive and rude. My sister is disabled and as there were no vacant tables outside we helped ourselves to one from a pile in the corner. We (6 of us of the older generation) visited on a really hot afternoon after a long walk.
